On 24 December huge floods hit our property. The dam wall broke during the course of the floods, leaving some damaging effects behind, though our lodge has not been damaged at all.

The dam is no more; it is now the river running straight through.

Nestled in the heart of the Waterberg, Tholo Lodge is the ideal family getaway or if you want to spend quality time in the African bush with friends.

Tholo Lodge consists of six spacious chalets, a central dining area with lounge, and a swimming pool. Just 250 km from Pretoria, this self-catering lodge is situated in the exclusive Tholo Bush Estate, a 2000-hectare nature estate set in the heart of the Waterberg.

Stretched along the riverbank, each luxurious chalet allows for privacy and boasts a private deck, walk-in closet and beautiful en-suite bathroom, while the central area comprises a fully-equipped kitchen, dining room, lounge, and two bathrooms. The main lodge setting is perfect for a bushveld braai and lazy brunches on the deck overlooking the river.

Cool off in the swimming pool during warm bushveld summers or enjoy an African bush fire with an open fireplace. Sundowners can be enjoyed on the deck whilst viewing the game coming down to drink and listening to the call of the African Fish Eagle in the background. Other activities at Tholo Lodge include canoeing, fishing, hiking, bird watching, mountain biking, game viewing, game drives, bird watching, and 4x4 trails.

Stunning. Amazing rooms, friendly people and really nice place to relax and enjoy yourself.

The lodge and its surroundings are wonderful. Sharon and Pieter were most helpful and friendly. The view of the river is magnificent. You can see giraffe drinking, waterbuck, impala and kudu playing in the water. Sharon and Pieter took us to a magnificent viewpoint. Out of this world! One critical point: The sand road to the lodge is difficult to negotiate for non 4x4 cars.

Excellent Venue to Relax by

We stayed at Tholo lodge for only two nights but were the only guests in the lodge which was awesome. The place is beautifully done and has everything you need to sit back and relax. Just beware that the road is exceptionally bad getting there and a decent SUV would be best (except we passed a guy in a BMW 320 taking it very slowly).
