TANGLEWOOD BOUTIQUE HOTEL REVIEWS (100 %) Beautiful old hotel steeped in history by Jason Graham 26 May 2018 We celebrated our wedding anniversary at Tanglewood Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Our host Jenny made us feel so at home in her newly acquired hotel - a charming old building that made us feel like we were stepping back in time to when it was first built in the mid 1800's.
The beautiful wooden staircase that leads one up to the hotels rooms is a notable feature, and together with the high ceilings and decor gives the place an "old Victorian country farmhouse" type feel to it. We chose to stay in the very spacious and comfortable "Kings Room", and slept very well in the massive King size bed (complete with electric blankets that were needed because it was cold!) The absolute silence at night was glorious - the lack of noise was noticeable, but may have been partly due to the fact that apart from only one other guest we had the entire big old hotel to ourselves!
Our stay at Tanglewood was made all the more interesting by the story Jenny regaled us about a mysterious man who moved over from London, England into the Dargle in the 1800's. He was welcomed into the local farming community and frequented the old hotel's bar. This man, who later disappeared from the area, turned out to be one of the men suspected of being none other than "Jack the Ripper" (worth Googling this story!) And yes - in spite of this bedtime story we still slept well :)
