Pumula is a family owned rustic and lived-in mountain log-house with a thatched roof, and is nestled at the foothills of the Central Drakensberg near Champagne Castle Hotel. It is within the World Heritage Site, where there is the combination of sheer natural beauty and wealth of biological diversity and has magnificent views of the Drakensberg, Cathkin Peak, Sterkhorn and Champagne Castle in the background.This log-house offers three bedrooms with single beds in each and one with a baby's cot, two bathrooms and can sleep a maximum of six adults and one toddler. There is a fully equipped kitchen for self-catering, a large living room with a fireplace (no TV) and a braai area outside. Blankets and pillows are provided, but guests are required to BRING THEIR OWN LINEN AND TOWELS. Check in after 14h00 and check out by 10h00. The area offers many hiking trails in the age-old indigenous forest that is dotted with streams, waterfalls and pools. Other trails are on the grassy plains where panoramic views of the mountains are displayed. In the nearby vicinity (5 - 10 minutes drive) there is a championship golf course at Champagne sports resort, birds of prey demonstrations at Falcon ridge, concerts at the world renowned Drakensberg Boys Choir school as well as quad biking, tree canopy tours, river rafting, micro light flights and a number of shops in the area selling clothing, health products, curios, art and crafts, jewellery and more.

We booked in advance and only read the reviews after paying. Not having a shower and the outdated furniture. We were very sceptical. On arriving we were astonished by the beautiful view of the Drakensberg. We would definitley go back as the outdated furniture and rustic cabins is worth the stay and it fits in great with the area rather than having luxury.

Being in the Berg by

Spent a lovely time at Pumula - really a great destination for a family or small group of friends who wants to spend quality time together in the tranquility of the Drakensberg. Simple but functional accomodation that provides a wonderful base for outings and hikes, or just spend time together on the lovely lawn or under the big tree with the picnic bench - great value for money!

it is one of the most scenic place I have visited. little attention should be given to the sanware and taps. The livingroom was amazing, and I will definitely visit again.

View was spectacular. Accommodation left a lot to be desired. A very old, poorly maintained building, with poor access.

Incredible view of the Berg from this wooden Cottage. Big spacious rooms, bathrooms and living area with a fire place. Well equiped kitchen. Beautiful maintained garden and wooden table and seats for meals outside. Very quiet and peaceful. A Cottage with character and a history. Not luxurious but has everything you need. Poor internet reception in this part of the Berg. Will definately be back for the view and tranquility each year.

Perfect location for a Berg getaway! Views were incredible & was everything we needed. Was great during our stay, but may just be too cold in the middle of winter with no heaters, electric blankets or showers (baths only).

Surprise in the Drakensberg mountain by

We loved the setting of Pumula, high up above the valley , with a superb view on Champagne, Cathkin Peak and the rest. The quiet environment and beautiful nature is breathtaking and unreal. Although the log cabin house needs some attention on the inside, it is very comfortable and has a very good equipped kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed reading the typed history of Dr Verster, alias Dr Goedhart, who built the house after he turned 70. Dr Goedhart was well known to our age group; he wrote articles about health in Die Burger when we grew up and was like a GP in the house. We also found the district and things goiing on there, very entertaining. Diana Wilkinson, the overseer, welcomed us so friendly , we felt at home immediately. We would like to go there again.
