Old Oak Manor

Riebeek Kasteel, Western Cape, South Africa
Guest House, Hotel from R 475
R 475

Old Oak Manor is a splendid guesthouse situated in Riebeek Kasteel, in the heart of some of the most beautiful scenery in South Africa. The building itself is one of the oldest houses in the area, built around 1860. The guesthouse was named after the oldest oak tree on the property (estimated to be 180 years old). The other old oak on the property, which is estimated at about 150 years, provides a welcome shade to the restaurant outside area.

Old Oak Guest House has four en-suite bedrooms respectively called Tara, Julius, Misty and Felix and are named after the owners' cats. The two bigger rooms, named after the two "fat cats" Tara and Julius, are located at the back of the house and open onto a patio leading to the swimming pool.

These bedrooms have a double bed and spacious bathroom with free standing Victorian bath and shower. The other two rooms, named after the two "sleek cats" Felix and Misty, are respectively located to the side and front of the house. These bedrooms also have double beds with an en-suite bathroom containing a shower. This same relaxed style of décor was used here. All rooms have wall heaters for the cold winter nights.

The Wedding suite is located above the restaurant. This spacious living area consists of a lounge, bedroom and en-suite bathroom and contains a double bed and two-day beds. DSTV, tea/coffee facilities, and an honesty bar are available in the loft. Room service can be ordered from the restaurant during normal open hours. With its special interior, this space is very popular as a honeymoon suite and has been the focal point of many interior shoots for local and international magazines.

Stay at Old Oak Manor, Riebeeck Kasteel by

We had a lovely stay at Old Oak Manor. The staff was very friendly and the food excellent! Thank you for making our stay special! Charlene & Liné Nel, Willie & Wilma de Wet.

Perfect for rain or shine by

Best stay ever! Excellent value for money. Wish we had stayed longer. Eat at Felix and have the lamb shank with gorganzola!

Visits in summer by

Lack of air conditioning in rooms made sleep impossible in hot weather,it felt like being in a sauna. I recommend not using this venue during summer.

Old-Style Accommodation by

The guesthouse is picturesque and quaint with a peaceful garden and outdoor restaurant setting. The accommodation is more like communal living in a house with shared space so prepare to get acquainted with other guests. The house shares a kitchen with the restaurant for drinks so it can get noisy as is the busy main road (R311) to Moorreesburg on which the guesthouse is located. It's a busy trucking route so will be noisy from Monday morning to Saturday afternoon. I was disappointed - given our water crisis situation - that there was zero notice educating, potentially foreign, visitors to save water. We declined a towel change offer after only one day. The breakfast at the restaurant was a highlight. The staff were friendly, food was good and the coffees were warm.
