Kweekkraal Guest Farm is situated 8.2 km west of Riversdale, right at the gateway to the Garden Route on the southern coast of Africa. The farm forms part of a conservation area and the main house is of historic significance as it was built in 1880. This is a working farm, sheep and cattle are grazed on cultivated oats and lucerne pastures. Other grain crops produced are canola, wheat and barley.

Our accommodation consists of nine units which have recently been lovingly renovated and equipped by the farm owners, Pieter and Sandra van Wyk. Five of the units overlook a farm dam with a backdrop of eucalyptus trees and grain fields. These units each contain two bedrooms, a bathroom, kitchen, and a lounge and dining area. Three of the one-bedroom cottages are situated around the swimming pool and barbeque area. There is also a rustic stone cottage bound to lift your spirit and revive your senses. Power is supplied by solar and gas. Up to eight guests can sleep in this unit.

For your convenience we offer braai packs, sandwiches for the coals, fresh salads, wood and soft drinks. The main farm house is presently being renovated to house a coffee shop and restaurant that will specialise in typical South African cuisine.

Stay in Nature Lovers Cottage 8 sleeper by

Kweekkraal Guest Farm is a beautiful Farm there is no doubt about that, but the Nature Lovers Cottage is a completely separate type of stay.
There are clearly no images on the site of the inside of this cottage for a reason.
Its very old and the upkeep is definitely not done.
It is 1km drive from the farm.
Upon our arrival to the cottage we were welcomed by MANY large spiders that we should have been warned about.
During our 3 night stay we also came across scorpions in our cottage, a lot more spiders (Large spiders the size of your hand and dangerous, my husband and I have serious arachnophobia to the point of tears, so to be warned would have been great) as well as bats in the ceiling.
We were only warned about possible snakes on the dirt road.
So you clearly have to be completely one with nature, if you are thinking of staying in this cottage be prepared to have all kids of creatures surrounding you or on you.
There is gaps everywhere (Roof, Doors etc) so you cannot stop anything from entering the cottage even though we spent quite a bit on products to keep the insects out.
I do not think that this is by any means value for money, if you are more than 4 people rather get more than one cottage on the farm and not the 8 sleeper cottage.
There is an amazing dog that made our stay worthwhile, we spent most of our days by the pool side and at the Riversdale Town, the hosts were nice but we did not feel well accommodated nor were we asked how our stay was upon checking out.
Also there seemed to be rat droppings all over as well as the bowls and dishes were covered in spider webs and dead spiders which we had to clean ourselves.

I do not think i will be recommending this farm to anyone due to the stay we experienced, we made the best of it but if i had known that the cottage was 1km from the farm and really in the middle of the bush we would have rather chosen 2 of the other chalets. (which you see in the images are beautiful)

Establishment Response:

We would like to thank you for the review about the Nature Lovers Cottage and apologise about your bad experience. Unfortunately at the time of your stay all other units were fully booked. As you mention the Nature Lovers Cottage is for guests who are one with nature and love a rustic almost camping experience. The Nature Lovers Cottage is in the conservation part of the farm and all creatures are welcome and protected. Unfortunately we are experiencing a drought and creatures are moving closer to buildings for shelter and survival. In your original accommodation request you were informed about the distance of 1km from the main establishment and that this cottage is for guests who love tranquillity, watching birds in the day and stars at night. We have discussed the review with the owner and pictures of the inside of the Nature Lovers Cottage will be on our website soon.
