Moya Eco Lodge is a self-catering lodge ideally suited for those that want a tranquil, secluded beach holiday in Mozambique.

The lodge consists of four luxury tents located just 20 meters from the beach, in the coastal dune forest. Each tent is situated on an elevated, large wooden deck and spaced to ensure complete privacy. There are three double tents, and a single, much larger five-sleeper, double room family tent. The double tents have queen-size beds, en-suite bathrooms, and all bedding is supplied. The very large front deck has casual chairs, and offers a sea view, through the cool dune vegetation. The family unit is similarly constructed and consists of two bedrooms and a bathroom. One bedroom has a queen bed, and the other room two bunk beds, sleeping four.

Guests can explore the spectacular beach right on the doorstep, where activities can be enjoyed such as swimming, snorkelling, surfing and other exciting water sports.

Location, location, location! by

Moya Eco Lodge is perfectly situated. Remote and peaceful, being right on the beach. The beach was easily accessible and private, with few other visible beachgoers. We loved the isolation and being disconnected from technology. The tents are secluded, well sheltered from the prevailing winds, shady and fairly private. And that, sadly, is where the praise ends. There are a lot of little things wrong at the lodge ? torn & frayed towels and linen, broken bathroom fittings, leaking shower ? I could go on. Our main issues were: The electricity supply to the fridges is erratic at best, and more off than on, at worst. This resulted in food spoilage. The back-up battery system is no longer functional and the generator is needed to power the fridges - there was no sign of these running on solar power. Constant supervision is necessary to ensure that the generator is started and remains on during the day. We were inconvenienced by staff and their friends entertaining in the main lodge one evening which was adjacent to our tent. We were kept awake until the wee hours with loud music and talking. The entertainment area is small, made smaller by the fact that a staff member sat in the guest deck area playing music and drinking alcohol at 9am. As paying guests, our comfort and relaxation was definitely not a priority. There is a general feeling of decay, lack of maintenance and lack of interest. The establishment needs urgent intervention by management/owners and attention to routine and preventative maintenance if they wish to survive in this competitive environment.
