Monia stay by

Had a good time. Beautiful scenery. Cool and calm weather. Big yard good for kids to play around. Safe.

We managed to book accommodation at Monia Guesthouse in Graskop for three people on Tuesday 26 July 2016. I asked prior to my booking for the owner which unit/house he will suggest for us to stay in, his answer was that ?they are all unique'. I therefore decided on Monia Guesthouse. We paid the full amount and we received a confirmation letter for my payment from Safarinow. I contacted Safarinow while we were in Pilgrims Rust in order to get information on the physical address for my GPS. Safarinow confirmed my booking (again) and furnished me with the contact details of the owner, the contact details of Safarinow as well as the address of Monia as requested.

We travelled in the afternoon to Graskop and arrived at about 16:00 at the address.

The gate was locked and there was no sign of any person. We phoned the numbers provided, but in vain, I think there must be about ten voice messages on the owners cell phone! I think I phoned about twenty times the number provided by Safari which correlates with the number on a board at the gate. We stood there for hours, tired after a very long day and a very bad experience on the Long Tom pass due to weather conditions, it was extremely cold and dark, we realised at that stage that we had to think about alternative accommodation arrangements. We then experience with a shock that Safarinow do not have any contact facilities after office hours, the numbers given for the owner did not work and the only option was to try the Information Office ? with reference to the information on the board at the gate of Monia. I drove to the office but it was locked (after office hours) and the telephone numbers on the door of the office was only for office hours.

After our own ?investigation' we found a person that furnished us with a number of the owner's wife. I contacted her, she was friendly and I explained her our dilemma, while I was speaking to her, her husband, the owner, took the conversation over and used an unacceptable tone of voice. According to him, they went to the Kruger National Park (!!!) for a few days and he is not now available to assist us. He also told me that it seems to him that I am the person with a problem! Which was true ? he is on holiday and I am standing in the dark without accommodation after we paid every sent! He put the phone down before we completed the conversation and sent his ?partner' to unlock the gate and house ? the partner arrived with the wrong bunch of keys and after a while we eventually had access. There was the second surprise awaiting us ? I took pictures of the house as ?evidence', the furniture is filthy, the windows cannot locked because of broken/ stolen levers, the kitchen door had a hole in it, when I opened the shower I was burnt with a stream of hot water because the threads of the shower ?head' is stripped (if you open the water the pressure of the water forces the ?head' off), the tiles were filthy, the mattresses (the one that I slept on) had springs that nearly penetrated the outer layer of the mattress, some of the chairs in the dining room was broken, there was no sign of any maintenance ? etc! The window of one of the bath rooms was locked by means of a kitchen fork!

On the wall of the kitchen is a letter that confirms the fact that the owner is well aware of the condition of the house and that he received enough negative reports from previous victims ? and did nothing to address the problems (it might be that complaints were filtered by means of contacts or structures in the system, as an example, read the following request from the owners on the kitchen wall):

?IF YOU'RE BOOKING WAS MADE THROUGH A WEBSITE PLEASE DO NOT REPORT ANY NEGATIVE REMARKS ON THE WEBSITE BUT SENT IT TO THE GRASKOP INFO EMAIL ADDRESS AS GIVEN ABOVE?

This is unacceptable! This means that many people previously had the same experience (with regard to the condition of the house)!
