Big Five Private Game Reserve is a five star game lodge and luxury tented lodge. Situated between the Kruger National Park and the Zululand Coast, the same Africa, a different world. The Mkuze Falls Private Game Reserve is located, beautifully in the heart of historic Zululand in the South African province of KwaZulu-Natal. Mkuze Falls is one of only two Private Game Reserves in the region where you can view the Big 5 lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, and elephant and for bird lovers, nearly 400 species of birds are resident.

For those seeking a little adventure, there is the magnificent Maputaland coast to explore and fishing is available on Pongolapoort Dam. The Zululand Battlefields are in close proximity and there are many sites of historical importance to visit. The Reserve is located on land that once formed part of the Boer Republic, created when the pioneer leader, Piet Retief, bought the land from Dingaan, half-brother of the great Zulu King, Shaka.

Highly experienced kitchen and waiting staff have been trained to indulge and delight the most discerning guests. The menu varies daily and features a host of South African dishes including local venison specialties during the hunting season. Vegetarian meals are prepared on request. In fine weather, dinner or a South African braai/barbecue is served in the boma.

Fantastic Time by

We had a fantastic time at Mkuze Falls private game reserve. Everyone was really helpful and made us feel incredibly welcome. I don't have a single bad word to say about the place. It was all fantastic! Having looked at a number of reserves before booking this, I also think it was very good value for money and don't think they could have done anything more to make our stay any better.

Visit while it's still possible by

Mkuze Falls Game Reserve provides beautiful bushveld and very good diversity of fauna and flora for a moderately sized reserve - we had our fill of the Big Five (albeit only leopard spoor on this occasion) and other iconic Africa beasts during our five days. The tented accommodation had a particularly good crew operating during our visit - thanks to Rachelle and Petrus especially. If you are familiar with parks in South Africa and Southern Africa, Mkuze will not disappoint as a destination in close proximity to both Jo'Burg and Durban, but with some similar characteristics of a location perhaps a little more remote. The weather during May treated us particularly well with clear warm days and cool evenings. Thanks again Mkuze Falls!

Exceptional by

There is a reason why Mkuze Falls has a 5 star rating, but personally speaking, I would sneak an extra half a star in if a could! The facilities were exceptional and the location and views were an experience in themselves. From the time we got there until the time we left, we felt like welcome "old friends". Without expecting, the staff would run baths for when you came back from game drives, to turning down beds when you returned from the evening meals, and the list goes on. The game drives were exceptional quality with a special mention for Sepho and Elliot, our driver and spotter. It is rare to see the spotters chair used by other lodges during game drives, but the professionalism of the drive meant that little went unnoticed, spotted and discussed. As regular visitors to South Africa and the Kruger Park on business from Australia, our normal schedule was changed due to heavy bookings to Mkuze Falls. A stop and place we knew little about, but not any longer! Any trip to South Africa, (and all ours from now on), MUST include a trip to Mkuze Falls. Thank you guys, we WILL be back!

First Class Experience by

I travelled with my husband, daughter and her partner. This was a first class experience in a first class resort. The staff, game driving and food were exceptional. We were treated like royalty. We missed a lion kill by about 10 minutes, our jeep was surrounded by 35 elephants, followed a cheetah, and had warthog and elephant drink in the river below our tents. Would strongly recommend this resort to all.

The gamedrives were amazing by
