Melozhori Private Game Reserve Lodge

Melozhori Game Reserve lies in the picturesque Cape folded mountains, adjacent to the tiny hamlet of Stormsvlei in the verdant Overberg district of the Western Cape and just under 200kms from Cape Town. And just like travellers of old, Melozhori is a natural place to pause on your journey through the beautiful and famous 'Garden Route'. This predator free game reserve is set on a breath-taking panoramic landscape with uninterrupted views and home to unique mix of indigenous fauna and flora.

With care and consideration to historically occurring species, game was gradually introduced and today the 19 different mammal species and 131 identified birds bear testimony to the patience and long-term vision needed for conservation to be meaningful. The reserve has expanded to 2,300 hectares of succulent Karoo, renosterveld and sections of fynbos in the mountainous areas. An expansive dam was repaired and work began on the infrastructure for a family's 'home away from home'.

The rambling thatched lodge sits comfortably on the slopes above a picturesque dam looking south-west towards the seemingly never ending folds of Blue Mountains. Entering the lodge, the most characteristic smell of Africa greets you - open thatch. The vast thatch roof that spans the magnificent lounge and dining area and the bedrooms to either side. Through glass doors, your eye is led over the timber deck and rim-flow pool, onto the mountains beyond; you feel instantly at ease.

Four generous en-suite bedrooms flow onto private decks, all overlooking the dam and valley beyond. Trees attract natural life to the fringes of the homestead; rise early and you're likely to be sharing the view with giraffes and browsing zebras. Being a family home, the environment is completely safe for children, who will delight in the open spaces and spotting game from our open game-drive vehicle.
