The town of Loeriesfontein is situated in the Hantam region, 80 kilometres from Calvinia. Other nearby towns include Nieuwoudtville (65km) and Brandvlei (128km).

It is situated in a basin and surrounded by the beautiful mountain ranges of the Northern Cape. Loeriesfontein are part of the Namaqualand, known the world over for its proliferation of wild flowers during the South African spring time.

People flock from all corners of the globe to experience the natural loveliness of about 4 000 different flower species. The town plays an important role in the sheep farming and salt mining industries of South Africa.

Loeriesfontein is also the proud home of one of the world's only two windmill museums. This is called the Fred Turner Museum, and it showcases 27 assembled windpumps. A new wind farm are also being build in the bushmanland 80km from Loeriesfontein. The Quiver Tree Forest near Loeriesfontein is one of the largest of its kinds in the world.

My wife used to live here 39 years ago. Was good to see Loeriesfontein. Windpomp gastehuis is really a lovely place with all the facilities you could want for in your room. Regrettably only self catering.
