JENNY'S B&B MELMOTH, ZULULAND REVIEWS (40 %) Disaster by Herbert Gruener, Germany Friday, 21 June 2013 Considered service performed and rooms situations (dirty, only transparent curtains, space only for little suitcase, no climatization) the rate is definitely unacceptable. For the rate of R 700 as demanded we had several incomparable better accommodations before in other places. Knowing these conditions
we surely would have preferred to travel during night hours in order to find something more acceptable. The only acceptable room was where we took breakfast. The furnishings are of simplest design, old, not maintained, totally worn-out and unkempt (the door to the adjacent bathroom f.e. did not close because of different measures regarding the door frame). In 3 weeks of traveling this was the only place where we didn't use the shower because of the whole circumstances (scruffy, the transparent window without curtain). The wash-basin was so tiny, that the teeth-brushing has been a challenge.
As for the breakfast: no jam, no fruit, no fruit-juices, there was nobody to serve us (self-service to heat water for coffee or tea as well as for toast-breads). We used our own brought-along coffee as there was no pure coffee offered. The "coffee" consisted in a mix of chicory and decaffeinated coffee in portioned bags. We had to prepare it all by own like usually provided in the whole ZA as welcome in the bedrooms. Sunny side up eggs were not possible to get. The answer: We make it so, that meant only scrambled (obviously to hide the real number of eggs used, as the portion offered for us 4 people was very, very little to allot.
In my opinion R 400 would be an upper limit for this kind of accommodation. The highlight by paying the remaining rate was, that the owner demanded R 920 instead of fixed R 700 for each room. Fortunately I was prepared as I showed the confirmation about R 700/room. BAD BAD BAD!!! by Tracy Appelgryn, South Africa Tuesday, 30 July 2013 Room had no lights, we were given solar lamps? bedding not up to standard!! photos advertised on website is not clear reflection of what you get!! bathroom windows not curtained or blinded! windows were clear!! no privacy!! and this is the second room we were given!! please look into this as it was not enjoyable!!! Bathrooms need a lot of work and the owner doesnt seem to be present meaning that there is a big disconnect in customer service. Disappointment by Stefan Meyer 14 December 2017 Looking at the online reviews and the photos this appeared to be a pleasant place to spend the night. My stay was the outcome of another venue could not accommodate my booking. They recommended this venue instead.
The area appears to be somewhat run down. All shops appear to close at 1800, which was unexpected but not a problem.
Arriving at Jenny's I had to phone the manager to find out where the reception area was as the place seemed deserted. Once found the staff had no knowledge of my booking.
The room was sporadic in that the linen was clean but I discovered after dropping a pen that it appears no cleaning had been done under the beds for some time.
The tiles in the bathroom are falling off and the shower door had broken off or rusted away.
The general feel is more of a back-packer's lodge than bed and breakfast.
