Grootfontein Private Nature Reserve is a 1,200-hectare bushveld farm located just three hours from Gauteng in the beautiful Limpopo Province, near the eco-tourism town of Thabazimbi. This fourth generation working family farm welcomes all lovers of the great African outdoors. Grootfontein is proudly OFF-THE-GRID (but embraces the "glamping" lifestyle!)The reserve offers accommodation in four bush lodges and two campsites that are all unique from each other and perfect for short or long stays. Guests can enjoy hot showers powered by paraffin, gas fridges, and solar powered lights. We now offer breakfasts! So if you and your group would like a cooked breakfast, please let us know when you book! Here, guests will find tranquility and pristine, untouched bushveld landscape that is home to over 150 species of birds, 160 species of trees, and a wonderful range of animals including zebra, giraffe, kudu, impala, waterbuck, bushbuck, Blue wildebeest, nyala, warthog, and leopard. Since the farm does not offer the Big 5, guests are free to explore the area on foot. We are also only an hour's drive from Pilanesburg and Marekele National Parks where the Big 5 can be viewed. In addition, we offer hiking, birding, 4x4 trails, kayaking, mountain biking, as well as themed weekends for mountain bikers, photographers and art lovers. The facilities are more than comfortable, even for a family with 2 small children. The staff are friendly and helpful. Giant Rock is clean with everything we needed. Loved the outside shower.
Our 2 dogs went along and being city dogs, they loved the bush! We didn't see them for hours as they ran free and explored.
The only negative is that the gas fridge does not work 100%. Nature it its most beautiful by Elsabe Roos 13 February 2018 Can't begin to express how much I love this place! This is a slice of heaven on earth. Quiet and remote. A true get away from the crazy city life.
It is almost as if time stands still here. The farm has loads of wildlife to explore and adore. My personal favourite of course was the Giraffes and the little baby one we saw.
This is the getaway if you like doing it old school no cell phone reception and truly untouched nature all around.
The views are spectacular and this year it is especially astonishing as they have had a good rainy season.
The staff are friendly and very helpful but if your are anything like us the only thing we required from Patrick was some more wood for the awesome evening bonfires.
I have to say he did give a very detailed demonstration of how the outdoor shower works and sure gave us a few giggles.
All and all we absolutely loved it. But come prepared as the is really no electricity and the bathrooms are outside and you might get surprised by some of the natural residence in the middle of the night on your way to the outdoor facilities.

Now where in your quote or confirmation of our booking did you specify that it were a camp site and not chalets, even on the visitors Guide there is NO mentioned on this.
When I requested a quote I requested a chalet big enough for 8 people. I did not request a camp site with NOTHING.

Accommodation at Berlin Lodge could be upgraded to make the stay more comfortable, but we enjoyed the trip immensely.

A peaceful stay in the bush by Carol Paetzold 25 September 2018 The facilities are rustic but well catered for a stay in the bush. We loved the paraffin lamps at night and the plunge pool to cool down in the heat of the day. The area is off all main roads so is undisturbed by traffic noise and each lodge if sufficiently far away from each other to make you feel as if you isolated.
