Few other reserves offer as complete an outdoor experience as De Hoop, with sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope and the Potberg Mountains.Birdwatchers spend time along the shores of the vlei observing wading birds, while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures.

Hikers and cyclists have close encounters with bontebok, the Cape mountain zebra, eland and baboons. Activities are diverse and guests can choose between various day walks, mountain biking along the many gravel roads and scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkelling in the many turquoise rock pools are great ways to pass the days.

A sensational spot accessible to the Cape Peninsula by

De Hoop is a gem and I was delighted with the standard of the rondavels where I stayed for four nights, and especially with the high quality of the food, wines and decor of the Fig Tree Restaurant. The weather was challenging much of the time, with high winds, cool temperatures and some cloudy days but the ambiance was wonderful.

De Hoop Collection - Opstal cottages by

Pleasant, comfortable stay but a bit expensive considering quality of equipment, facilities and finishes in the cottages. Good menu and food at restaurant. Restaurant staff were also very accommodating about providing children with 'kiddies fare' which was not on the dinner menu.
