Nakambale Adventure Loge

Nakambale Adventure Loge

Ondangwa, Oshona, Namibia

(POA)

Nakambale Adventure Lodge is a special and out-of-the-ordinary one. In 1880 a Finnish missionary, Martti Rautanen, settled in a place called Olukonda near Ondangwa. He completed the translation of the bible into the local language and built a cool, thick-walled mud church and home for his family.

He was nicknamed ?Nakambale', after the hat he always wore which resembled a basket or ?okambale' turned upside down. The Rautanen home is now a museum and the century-old church remains as a striking landmark. The lodge is surrounded by village homesteads, palm trees and fields ? an ideal place for a taste of authentic Oshiwambo culture.

The lodge has its own food garden and corn field. School classes from the area visit Nakambale for a variety of nature and cultural projects
