Built in 1908 as two Victorian-styled homesteads, Ballon Rouge today offers tastefully appointed guest accommodation in Standard and Superior rooms all perfectly situated in the heart of Franschhoek.

Franschhoek is ideally located for exploring the Western Cape with its breathtaking scenery and winelands, being only 45 minutes by car to Cape Town and its international airport.

Deluxe rooms are air-conditioned, with TV, private telephone, and underfloor heated bathrooms. Our penthouse suite offers exceptional panoramic views from a private deck.

A modern spa caters for complete relaxation and tranquillity, or enjoy a glass of Franschhoek's award-winning wines in our cosy lounge. To provide utmost privacy and tranquillity, Le Ballon Rouge has decided to discontinue its restaurant service to the general public. Exclusively for our guests, light meals can be served by David and we can provide more elaborate dining for groups with 24 hours' prior notice.

Le Ballon Rouge Guest House by

This small lodge was absolutely lovely. Our room was decorated very nicely and had a beautiful marble bath. There were two sunny patios, one with a pool. The service was friendly and responsive. The neighborhood was fantastic with excellent restaurants, art gallaries and up scale botiques within a half block walk. By car, at least 35 wineries are available for tasting and there are beautiful views all around. It was an excellent value for the money.

Great Location, Great Town by

The Guest House is more like a small upmarket hotel. It is in a great position just of the main street on the Town close to cafes and lots of great places to eat. We stayed in an upstairs deluxe room which was very good and had air con, which was needed. The Ballon Rouge has a small pool and 6 - 8 sun beds. All in all a very good position in the heart of town, very safe parking and you can stroll out at night for something to eat and watch the world pass by.

Very nice place for an overnight stay

Location is good, things to improve on by

No drinking water in the bedroom, pillow very uncomfortable, liquid soap instead of a bar soap, no toothpaste. The TV is just in the bedroom to tick a box, not in a proper position.
