Gansbaai Lodge and Backpackers is situated in centre of the shark-diving capital of the world, Gansbaai, which is a short two-hour drive from Cape Town. The lodge prides itself on providing quality, clean student travel, backpacking and youth hostel accommodation to independent travellers and international backpackers alike. Gansbaai forms part of the Whale Coast with the Walker Bay Whale Sanctuary providing a nursery to southern right, bryde and humpback whales which are easily observed from the shore or on a boat-based whale watching tour. Dyer Island is a breeding colony for African penguins and Cape fur seals. The narrow channel between Geyser Rock and Dyer Island is home to around 60,000 seals and is a feeding ground of the endangered great white shark.
