Fort Mistake Country Lodge

Fort Mistake Country Lodge is situated just off the N11 and offers guests a choice of accommodation 35 km from Dundee, and 50 km from Ladysmith and Newcastle.

Guests can book six en-suite rooms that are furnished with double or single beds. The lodge also offers a Family Room with a double and two single beds, as well as a Family Apartment that contains a queen-size and two single beds. The unit also has a small kitchen. All the units are air-conditioned, and they are equipped with a fridge as well as tea and coffee facilities.

Braai facilities are available for use, and there is a farm stall that offers the basic facilities. There is a large dam for fishing that overnight guests can use. Walking routes to Fort Mistake and other sites can be arranged on request. Fort Mistake Country Lodge also has a small hall that is available for functions.

Today this beautiful and somewhat fragile region forms the heart of a Battlefields Route that one can do as part of a tour or as a self-drive experience - maps and brochures in tow to trace the battles that involved Mahatma Gandhi, Churchill, Shaka and General Louis Botha - all of whom played strategic roles in these intense clashes that have left the landscape imbued with the echoes of battle.
