Kathumzi

Kathumzi is situated on the Kalahari Golf and Hunting Estate, in Kathu, on the edge of the Kalahari Desert in the Nothern Cape. Kathu is the iron ore capital of the Northern Cape, and its name means ?town under the trees' after the camel thorn forest it is situated in. ?Umzi' is the Xhosa word for home, hence the name Kathumzi, our home under the trees. At Kathumzi you can expect warm hospitality in a relaxing and tranquil environment. Expect magical sunsets, an abundance of bird life, game viewing from your bedroom and breathtaking natural Kalahari surroundings.

Kathumzi offers bed and breakfast accommodation in luxuriously appointed bedrooms. Each suite is air-conditioned, and offer superior quality mattresses, 100-percent cotton percale linen, allergy-free duvets and pillows, electric blankets, and private outdoor showers for the summer months.

The Kalahari Golf and Hunting Estate is situated in the largest camel thorn forest in the world and adjacent to a 2400-hectare game reserve at which game species such as Kudu, Oryx, Red Hartebeest, Waterbuck, Impala and Springbok can be viewed by appointment. The estate captures the spirit and depth of the breathtaking Kalahari.

Sishen Golf Course was designed by Bob Grimsdell with the objective of providing a recreational outlet to the mining community. The par 72, 18-hole golf course is truly an amazing setting in which to play golf, the course winds its way through a 500-hectare camel thorn forest on the edge of the unique Kalahari Desert. Given the arid surroundings, its lush green Kikuyu fairways and greens continue to surprise all visitors to this region.
