All roads lead through Colesberg, as it is located in the centre of South Africa. Enjoy true Karoo hospitality in this charming town where The Horse and Mill is the perfect haven for weary, hungry, and thirsty travellers.

The guest house is situated in the centre of Colesberg, in a quite one-way street which runs parallel to the main road. The adjacent English-style Horse and Mill Pub and Restaurant is a beautifully restored coach house, built in 1840. The horse mill was erected on the Sewefontein farm in 1891 and was renovated and installed into the old coach house in 1977. Both the mill and the building which houses it have been declared National Monuments. Here you can quench your thirst with pint draft and feast on a wide variety of dishes in our restaurant. Karoo lamb dishes are our speciality, and English breakfasts can be served on request at R80.00 per person

We offer eight en-suite rooms, each with ceiling fan, selected DStv, bar fridge, heater, electric blankets, and tea and coffee facilities. The guest house offers secure parking, debit and credit card facilities, and some rooms are also pet friendly.

When next your journey takes you through Colesberg, saddle off at the Horse and Mill. We're the perfect stop over between Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Johannesburg, and Durban.

Something is terribly wrong with the plumbing. If one of the neighbors rooms use water, the noise(vibrating pipes) in our room was unbearable. This affected us at 5.30 in the morning ( nothing in the evening or during the night). Sleeping after 5.30 was impossible

Previous guests must have smoked in the room because the room stank of stale cigarette smoke (despite the no smoking sign on the door) and really strong airfreshner. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean but the smell was really offputting, an unfortunate detail which marred an otherwise serviceable stay. The breakfast is also R80 not R55 as stated on the advert.
